Corazón is the name of our beloved Chief Feline Officer, but it also means “heart” in Spanish. Before moving back to Virginia in 2021, Caitlyn worked for 2 years as a middle school math teacher in Bucaramanga, Colombia. Having studied Spanish since middle school and as a major in college, she was thrilled to have the opportunity to finally convert her Spanish language studies into actual bilingual fluency. She fell in love with the people of Colombia and has returned to visit multiple times; it truly feels like a second home. After adopting Corazón in 2022, Caitlyn immediately felt more love for that little dude than she had ever felt before. And now, especially in the midst of truly unprecedented times in the United States, love feels more important than ever. And even more so, love written in Spanish. At Corazón Cake Company. we are proud to stand firm in what we believe. Love is love, and ALL love deserves to be celebrated. No human is illegal (and especially not on stolen land). As a gluten-free human herself, Caitlyn (aka Cakelyn) knows that it means the world when those with dietary preferences are actually able to partake in the joy of sharing cake. A former middle school math teacher, Caitlyn started Corazón Cake Company after moving back to Richmond in 2022. What started as a side hustle in response to years of comments like "this is delicious- you should start a business" quickly grew to become a full-time dream job baking gluten-free cakes. When not busy in the kitchen, Caitlyn spends her time pursuing one of her 14 cyclical hobbies (rock climbing, snow boarding, jigsaw puzzles & backpacking, to name a few) or cuddling with her cat, Corazón ❤️
